Watty's Safety for Kids Contest

My name is Watty and I work at Maritime Electric! My job is to teach people about electrical safety. Electricity is an important part of our lives. It keeps our lights on and powers our cell phones, refrigerators and sometimes even our cars! It is very important to learn about electricity and how to be safe around it. Here are some electrical safety tips you should know:

  • Be very careful around electricity, it can be dangerous.
  • Always pull a cord out by the plug and never by the cord.
  • Don't plug too many things into an electrical outlet.
  • Stay away from electrical plants and substations, this is where Maritime Electric makes and sends power to your home.
  • Stay very far away (at least 30 metres) from downed power lines. They can be very dangerous. Tell an adult or call Maritime Electric at 1-800-670-1012 if you see one.
  • Do not climb trees, fly kites or play near power lines. Find an open area to play in, away from power lines.
