First Responders

Electricity: The Invisible Killer

At Maritime Electric, electrical safety is job one. First responders such as police, firefighters and EMS workers could be at risk when responding to situations involving downed power lines or other electrical hazards.

As part of a partnership between the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Maritime Electric is promoting a Canadian-made electrical safety campaign for emergency responders called "Electricity: The Invisible Killer."

Electricity: The Invisible Killer

Every year in Canada more than 1,000 contacts are made with energized high voltage power lines and equipment. In addition to these contacts, electrical substations are routinely broken into. A contact or break-in may require a response from police, fire or EMS workers. Each contact or electrical substation break-in has the potential to place emergency first responders at risk of serious injury or even death.
